Sitting by the Magnolia Tree

after watching the pink, purple and orange sky as the sun set, max and i settled by the magnolia tree - with large shiny, waxy and deep, deep green leaves and just a few blossoms open - we listened to music from across the street. frogs, insects and cars melting into background noise, i sat by the magnolia tree thinking about you.....the night sky was clear and the moon looked full and bright, a star or two began to peek through the dark blue sky, mosquitoes start to buzz and i sat by the magnolia tree thinking about you....the band played on, the audience was large - some dancing, some sitting, many singing and a good number standing, the beat of the music was light and happy and it eased my mind as i sat by the magnolia tree, thinking about you...the figure of the bass, tall and impressive in its stand, even from my spot across the street, it loomed large on the stage, images of memories not mine but from photographs seen of my favorite player...under the gaze of the mother moon, i sat by the magnolia tree, thinking of you and hoping you are thinking of me.....

The Hawk

from http://www.sayahda.com/cyc.html

In Native American cultures the hawk represents a messenger. It often appears in our life when we need to pay attention to the subtle messages found in our surroundings and from those we come in contact with. As with all messages received it is important to recognize its underlying truth. Because there are so many varieties of hawk its messages vary and can affect all levels of our psyche.

One thing that all hawks have in common is the skill to move between the seen and unseen realms gracefully connecting both worlds together. Their acute vision compliments this ability and their discriminating nature keeps them out of harms way. The broader vision of the hawk allows them to see what the future holds. In man this symbolizes prophetic insight. If this medicine is underdeveloped a tendency towards over analyzing everything is common. In so doing, clear vision is lost. Those who hold this totem should remember to keep their analytical mind under control and not allow it to run wild.

The hawk has many foraging techniques. The most typical in their pursuit of prey is swiftly following the animal's efforts to escape. Once the hawk has secured the prey with its powerful talons, the bird dismembers it with its sharply pointed, strong beak. In man, this suggests that we can run but we cannot hide from our destiny. Sooner of later it will catch up with us.

The destiny of all humankind is to awaken from their spiritual amnesia and realign with the original intention of their soul. When the hawk flies into our life we will be asked to evaluate who we have become and rip out the threads of our self created illusions. This enables our inner truth to surface.

Hawk signifies union with Great Spirit. A bird of the heavens the hawk orchestrates the changes necessary for our spiritual growth. Having this totem can be bitter sweet. If we accept its presence in our life we will be asked to surrender anything that doesn't honor the integrity of all life. Be it an idea, a feeling or an action. Although hard work is involved the rewards the hawk offers us are great.

My first encounter with the hawk

it was in 1999 while living on centre street, one morning in the fall as i stepped from the front "porch" (small concrete slab in front of the door LOL) and headed to the car, a hawk came swooping down between the car and me, landing on top of the utility pole in the neighbor's yard. i felt the air rush between us and saw the flecks of yellow in its eyes - it was an experience that i have never forgotten and since then, i am always eager to see "my" hawk again. it seems to have appeared to me at different times in my life when i needed an answer or reassurance that i'm doing the right thing. there have been owls and herons and cranes and many other smaller birds that i encounter every day and with which i have been taken by their beauty but there is something about the the hawk. i now know there is a nesting pair near the falls and their presence is constant. i have doubted its significance and yet find myself seeking it out - for comfort? for security? i'm not sure. i hoped to see "my" hawk while in the yucatan but never did although we did come across a pair of majestic owls while wandering the ruins at Uxmel.

Ix Chel, one of the Mayan jaugar goddesses...

described by Bishop Landa in the 16th century as the "goddess of making children", she is also associated with rain, medicine, and healing. Ancient pilgrimages to the island of Cozumel by women to ensure a fruitful marriage to the Ix Chel sanctuary were noted by Landa and he also describes the priest who served as the oracle.

BYW, In July of 1562, de Landa burned five thousand idols and 27 hieroglyphic rolls at Mani in the Yucatan. This was not the only occasion that de Landa destroyed books; he is the main reason that so few examples of Mayan hieroglyphs exist today. We visited the site in Mani where the burning took place - the church there is still holds mass every day......

.Ix Chel is represented both as a young and an old woman; it is believed here she is shown emptying the water jar symbolic for bringing rain

My church

my church.....on my birthday, i spent the moment right before dawn at my favorite place - the river. i thought about how the river is constantly changing - the water rushes over the falls [i know, man made!], overflow from the lake [another man made feature] but it all begins with the springs and the springs get their flow from the aquifer which is filled when it rains......the rain, the result of water vapor in the sky - molecules of water carried with the winds from all over the world.....the same drops of water falling from the sky that fell perhaps hundreds of years ago; an endless cycle. so new and ancient at the same moment - water needed for all life; water - with the power of sustaining and killing. water - to baptize, to cleanse, to inspire, to rejuvenate, to drown and kill....all in the same element. i stepped in the river and with cupped hands poured the water over my head - it was cool and wonderful - water, to cleanse, to inspire....being in the water - to thank and to pray. it was a powerful and a spiritual moment for me, just the river, max and i. and how can appreciating this, pondering this, how can feeling so connected to something so primal be evil? but that's what my family would say...... heathen they would call me - maybe even worse. i don't understand them.... if they believe that their god gave the earth and everything on it, why is appreciating it and worshiping it wrong?

still finding my path

The Hawk

Hawk, Power Animal, Messenger, Discernment, Intuition, Observation, Wisdom, Courage, Truth

By Ina Woolcott

The hawk's gifts include clear sightedness, being observant, long distance memory, messages from the universe, guardianship, recalling past lives, courage, wisdom, illumination, seeing the bigger picture, creativity, truth, experience, wise use of opportunities, overcoming problems, magic, focus.

Hawk is associated with the number 14, with the tarot card Temperance. The Temperance card represents the teaching of higher expressions of psychic ability and vision.

The Hawk represents a messenger in the Native American culture. It often shows up in our life when we need to pay attention to the subtle messages found around us, and from those we come into contact with. As with all messages received, it is important to recognise the messages underlying truth. We will be taught to be observant and also pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we aren't using, a gift or unexpected help for which we haven't shown our
gratitude for, or a message from the Universe. As there are so many hawk varieties, the messages vary and can affect all levels of our psyche.

Hawks are the protectors and visionaries of the Air. They hold the key to higher levels of consciousness. This power animal enables us to awakens vision and inspires a creative life purpose. Having Hawk as power animal means your life will be filled with responsibility, because Hawk people seek the overall view. You will most probably be aware of omens and spirit messages.

A Red tailed Hawk is special. It will ALWAYS be with you, for life. It has direct ties to the Kundalini, the seat of primal life force. It is linked to the base chakra. If you have this power animal, you need to be aware of and work toward fulfilling your soul's destiny. It reflects far greater intensity of energy within your life: physically, emotionally and mentally. Spiritual forces will be felt strong within you.
One trait all hawks share, is the ability to move between the seen and unseen realms gracefully, joining both worlds together. Their acute vision attributes this ability, their discriminating nature keeps them out of dangers path. Hawks have a broad vision, allowing them to see what the future holds. In man this is a symbol of prophetic insight. If this gift is underdeveloped, it is common for people with this power animal to have a tendency of over analysing everything. When this is so, clear vision is lost. You must learn to keep your analytical mind under control, not allowing it to run wild.

Hawk posses many hunting skills. The most common, when pursuing prey, is to swiftly follow the prey's efforts to get away. Once the prey is caught in the hawks mighty
talons, it is then dismembered with their sharply pointed, powerful beak. For us, this may indicate that we may be able to run, but not hide from our destiny. For, eventually it will catch up with us.

The destiny of man is to awaken from their spiritual amnesia and to realign with the original intention of their soul. When the hawk gets a hold of us in his powerful talons, we will be asked to evaluate who we have become and to shatter our self created illusions. This will help our inner truth to come out into the open and for it to shine.

Hawk denotes union with All That Is. The hawk is a bird of the heavens, arranging the changes necessary to prompt our spiritual growth. Having this power animal can be bitter sweet. When accepting its presence in your life, you will be asked to surrender/give up anything that doesn't honour the integrity of all life. Whether its an idea, feeling or action. Although hard work is involved, the rewards to be reaped are great, far outweighing this.

Full Moon

November 13, 2019

Last night was the full moon and thanks to Max, I got to see it at 11pm and 2am LOL
Cold, clear skies and a bright, full moon; noisy neighbors entertain guests on balconies; the sound of their laughter and the smoke from their cigarettes float down, down. til they disappear into the grassy hill. A few remnants of jack-o-lanterns rotting on some porches, Christmas lights and candy canes hang from others..... A cornucopia hangs on my front door - inside, not a single Christmas decor in sight. I have a strict December 1 rule for Christmas stuff; of course it is not uncommon for the tree to stay up til the first week of January...
Cooking painting party already scheduled and I'm excited my brother and is family is coming up from San Antonio. Sometimes, 10 miles could be the same as 100 miles - time and not distance, make the real difference. I'm babbling... been way too long since I've "blogged" LOL.
I must remember :

Whatever I am not changing,
I am choosing.

I have to read that again and repeat it again, especially when I am feeling sorry for myself and feeling like I have had no choices.... but even when you don't make a decision, you have made a choice.....
