woodpeckers

during the time off, max and i walked a bit later in the day than our usual 6am. this allowed me to see a lot more of the surroundings and i really enjoyed our treks to the river, parks and i especially enjoyed seeing the woodpeckers. we even had a woodpecker in our yard; last year, the robins were abundant and we saw them all winter long while this year, not one robin has been sighted. i put black sunflower seeds in my two birdfeeders only to have them constantly raided by the damn rats with fuzzy tails [some folks call them squirrels]. anyway, i was surprised at how many times the woodpecker showed up. i wondered what it meant so i went to one of my fav sites

The Woodpecker is a climber, a speedy flyer and difficult to catch; there are about 180 species of woodpeckers in the world.
"Those with this totem often find that their path in life wont always conform to society's standards and that their personal unique rhythm needs to be honored. Woodpeckers teach us to honor our personal truth and move through life with perseverance and inner strength. By staying grounded in our pursuits our goals can be obtained."

Woodpeckers are opportunists, defend their territory and are known as the Earths drummer. "Drumming is the heartbeat of mother earth and is associated with shamanism and the ability to move into other dimensions at will. For those with this totem the woodpecker represents self discovery. s they peck into and through trees and dead wood, hidden layers of ones psyche are revealed."
