new year's day 'dunk' @ rio vista falls

while the "polar bears" of san marcos celebrated the new year by plunging into the river at noon at sewell park, watson and i had our own new year's dunk in the river at rio vista falls later that day. due to the swiftly running and high water @ sewell, i was not too keen on chasing watson and battling the current so we participated as photographer at the main plunge. around 1:30 or so, we headed to the river - we parked the car across the street from the river pub and little man and i walked down just past the second little fall where we slowly inched into the water up to my waist, chest level for watson. it was cold - yes it was warmer at 70degrees than the ambient air temperature, but it was cold. it wasn't even 5 minutes yet when watson announced 'ok, mom we can go home now'. and then i said 'well, it won't count if we don't get our heads wet' at which time watson pinched his nose shut and stuck his head in the river! okay mom, i told myself, you started this... i too pinched my nose and had planned to 'sit' in the water when watson pushed the back of head into the water! there, it was done - our new year's dunk in the river!!!
